Volunteers
TPSA has overhauled the volunteer policy to prioritize flexibility, cost-savings, and fairness. We've heard your concerns, simplified the process, and eliminated all monetary penalties.
- Every TPSA chapter is required to complete two (2) volunteer shifts total.
- Each shift ranges from 6 to 15 hours.
- One shift must be completed on Day 1, and the other on Day 2 of the competition.
- You cannot complete both required shifts on the same day.
- At least one (1) shift must be filled by an adult (18+, not a high school student; e.g., Advisor, guest, or chaperone). Additional shifts may be filled by a student, provided they are not competing on the day of their shift.
- Lunch is provided to all conference attendees on both days regardless if volunteering that day. Breakfast & Dinner will be provided specifically to volunteers if their shift occurs during those meal times.
Registration
- You must manually select the "Complimentary Advisor" rate in the registration system; it is not applied automatically.
- Choosing not to use this credit does not waive the volunteer requirement.
- There are no longer monetary fines. However, chapters that fail to register for or complete both required shifts will be ineligible to receive awards.
Shift Selection
Shift selection opens at 12:00 PM (Noon) exactly two days after State Conference registration closes.
Shifts are first-come, first-serve. We recommend registering quickly to secure your preferred times.
You will select the volunteer for the shift from your list of conference attendees.
Bundled & Split Shifts
Some assignments (e.g., food service) are "bundled," meaning they require the volunteer to report, leave, and return at multiple specific times. A bundled assignment counts as one (1) single shift. The volunteer is responsible for attending all report times within that bundle. Failure to return for any portion of a bundled shift constitutes a failure to complete the shift.
